Chasing What Matters
How many times have you said, “I hate my job!” or “I hate this about what I do every day.” It doesn’t have to be that way. For those who can’t find the passion in their life’s work that the fortunate few do – fueling your passion outside of the daily grind of your current situation may have benefits in your current job; allowing you to find a balance between what you must do and what you want to do. Finding your passion can be a transformative experience. It often involves a process of self-discovery, exploration, and reflection. For some, passion may reveal itself in the form of a hobby, while for others, it may be linked to a career path or a cause they deeply care about. It's a journey that requires patience and an open mind, as passions can evolve over time. Whether it's through trying new activities, gaining new knowledge, or reflecting on personal values, the process of finding your passion can lead to a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.
Begin by finding your passion. Ask yourself what you care deeply about, if you don’t see it in your current job or role, you may find that exploring what you care deeply about.
Creating real purpose in your own life often allows you to see others in a different light, it creates new channels for conversation and novel application to day to day challenges. Passion and purpose allow you to reframe what you must do to make ends meet and they deepen your opportunity to explore your interest and build the passion that comes with expertise and real curiosity. Artfully it creates a virtuous cycle – as you begin to really be true to yourself – you are better to others and in turn everything you do becomes a more joyful investment of your time, talent and energy.
You may need to chase your interest during the precious few moments of discretionary time you have each day – but as you find the joy that comes from working on what you care deeply about - you will find applications to the other aspects of your workplace life. If not, you will be better prepared to take a leap of faith that resultsin a stronger, more fulfilled you.
